BetterBudgetsBetterBudgets

Currency Converter

Shows what an amount in one currency is worth in another. It's built for the paycheck or bill that arrives in a currency other than the one you budget in.

Inputs

Amount: what you have, in the From currency.

From: starts as your own currency.

To: starts as the US dollar, or the euro if the US dollar is already yours.

Swap flips the two currencies. You can pick any currency used by the countries BetterBudgets supports. Each one is listed with a couple of the countries that use it.

There's no Calculate button. The answer updates as you type.

What you get

The converted amount, with a caption giving the rate, for example 1 CAD = 0.6897 USD · rate as of Sep 5, 2026. Beneath it are the Reverse rate and what Per 100 converts to.

Where the rate comes from

Rates are daily reference rates, refreshed once a day. Weekends carry the last business day's rate.

The date is always shown. If the rate is more than a week old, the caption says so, and the conversion still works.

Pegged currencies are marked. The Bahamian, Bermudian, and Cayman Islands dollars are fixed to the US dollar, and the caption says so.

Rates need a connection the first time. If today's rates haven't downloaded, the form tells you to connect and reopen the converter.

What it's for

  • A paycheck paid in another currency, before you enter it as income
  • A subscription or bill charged in another currency
  • Comparing a job offer or a cost of living abroad in your own money

A reference rate isn't what you'll get

A reference rate is what a bank starts from, not what it charges. Card payments and transfers usually come in a little worse. Budget a small margin under the converted figure for money coming in, and a small margin over it for money going out.

Note

The converter doesn't have an Add To Budget button. Enter the converted figure in the Budget Builder yourself, with that margin applied.
